When they arrived at the scene, police learned multiple suspects, armed with at least one firearm, forced their way into the residence.
Police said an occupant of the home accessed a legally owned and properly stored firearm, and discharged it toward the suspects.
The suspects were seen getting into a black pick-up truck, which fled the scene before police arrived. The occupants of the home were not physically injured.
At around 3:15 a.m., York cops were notified that a male had been dropped off at a Toronto-area hospital with a gunshot wound and it was determined the male had been dropped off shortly after the home invasion happened.
Investigators with the Hold-Up Unit have since confirmed the male was shot during the reported home invasion.
Charges are pending against the male suspect who remains in police custody in hospital, in stable condition.
Police said charges have not been laid against the occupant of the home who discharged the firearm and the investigation is ongoing.
