The new Carolina Panthers offensive lineman spoke with local reporters for the first time since inking his one-year, $4.75 million pact last week. He was asked about his new (and former) teammate in Lloyd, who also joined the Panthers—on a three-year, $45 million deal.
Fortner would provide some promising insight into Lloyd, stating that the tenacious defender has a motor that doesn't stop.
"You gotta tell Devin it's practice. You gotta say, 'Hey, it's not Sunday,'" he said on Tuesday. "There's countless times where it's offense versus defense and it's hot out there and you're goin' after it and Devin's just not slowing down, man. You want that as opposed to the opposite. You don't want someone you have to try and pump up on game day."
Lloyd and Fortner were both selected by the Jaguars in the 2022 NFL Draft. The latter departed following the 2024 campaign, when he was traded to the New Orleans Saints for defensive lineman Khalen Saunders in August of 2025.
Fortner would go on to make 10 starts for the Saints while Lloyd earned his first Pro Bowl selection and a second-team All-Pro nod.
