After pitching in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, Ohtani chose not to pitch in the 2026 tournament to honor a deal he made with the Dodgers.
"As of now, playing as a pitcher in the WBC is not happening," Ohtani said, via MLB.com. "That is also a promise made with the [Dodgers], and there's a part of it that feels like it's about showing sincerity toward the organization that willingly sent me off. I think it's best to first contribute solidly on the offensive side."

Ohtani is entering the third year of a 10-year, $700 million deal he signed with the Dodgers ahead of the 2024 season.
