Kim stole second base after reaching base in the bottom of the 10th inning, and injured his hand in doing so. He didn’t come out of the game, as it ended shortly after, but did not play in Team Korea’s final pool game against Team Australia.
The 27-year-old was 1-for-10 through his first three games of the WBC, hitting a home run and recording two RBIs throughout his appearances.

Rebilas-Imagn ImagesTeam Korea still managed to advance to the knockout rounds despite missing Kim in the final game, as their 7-2 win gave them the run difference they needed to pass Australia and Chinese Taipei in the standings.
If Kim misses an extended period of time with his hand injury, it could have huge implications for the Dodgers’ position battle at second base. Kim began spring hot before leaving for the WBC and appeared to be the favorite, but Santiago has made a case for himself in the last week or so with manager Dave Roberts saying he was almost guaranteed to make the Opening Day roster.
If he can return before the beginning of the season, though, he’ll look to earn his spot at second and play as many games as possible as a starter.
