Rome Odunze shares his thoughts on Bears 2025 rookie class

· Yahoo Sports

The Chicago Bears were not short of pass-catchers for quarterback Caleb Williams during the 2025 season, surrounding him with Rome Odunze, DJ Moore, and Cole Kmet. But they also added several impactful rookies, including tight end Colston Loveland, receiver Luther Burden III and running back Kyle Monangai, and they've laid the ground work for one of the most intriguing passing offenses in the NFL.

Recently, Odunze sat down with Matt Harmon of Yahoo! Sports and discussed the depth of the receiving options around him in Chicago and how Williams likes to work with the receiving unit. The Bears got a big boost in their offense from the trio of Loveland, Burden, and Monangai, who garnered respect from Odunze.

"It was awesome," Odunze said. "To see their emergence throughout the season and more prolific role as the season rolled on, it was dope, man. Somebody on the team said every time Luther (Burden) gets the ball it feels like a punt return, it's about to be a highlight. You go to Loveland and his catching ability all over the field, he's a tight end who can block with the best of them and run routes with the best of them. You got Kyle Monangai as well, a great rookie class."

Odunze was the second of two first round picks by the Bears in 2024, along with quarterback Caleb Williams, and in their second season together the pairing continued their development, although the receiver struggled with injuries late down the stretch of the season. Odunze would go on to rave about Williams and how he puts in work with his receivers throughout the year.

"He plays both roles, for sure," Odunze said. "When it's a specific route, he definitely gives his opinion and Ben (Johnson) is very detailed in what he wants as well. I think it's a good mix, he does a great job of kind of letting receivers run their thing, but when he wants to add some input to get receivers the ball, he's not hesitant to share that."

The Bears surprised many in Williams' second season, going from worst to first, winning the NFC North and falling just short in the NFC divisional playoffs against the Los Angeles Rams. With several of his important weapons coming back for another year together, Chicago should be expected to see their offense take another big leap as well.
