Eagles had a second meeting with Penn State star Zane Durant
· Yahoo Sports
Pretend for a second that the NFL Scouting Combine doubled as an Olympic event. If that were true, former Penn State Nittany Lions star Zane Durant would have left the defensive lineman workouts with a couple of gold medals.
Philadelphia Eagles fans already know who he is by virtue of his playing his college ball at Happy Valley, but as his star burns brighter, Birds-centered circles have certainly been struck by Cupid's arrow. Don't worry, Philadelphia's leadership structure is already doing its due diligence. They met with the young star in the making at the combine. This is the second time they have done so. They also spent time with him at the Senior Bowl, where Eagles defensive line coach Clint Hurtt was the National Team's coach for the week.

It may not seem like much, but trust us on this. All of that matters.
Teams don't double back on prospects by accident. When teams meet a player at the Senior Bowl and then carve out more time at the NFL Scouting Combine, those franchises aren't just kicking tires. They're stacking information.
Coach Hurtt getting an up-close look during Senior Bowl week only adds another layer. That's classroom time. That's practice field time. That's meeting room time. That helps learn how a prospect absorbs coaching, how he interacts with teammates, and how he handles correction.
That's gold for a position group built on detail and discipline. As for Zane Durant, the appeal is obvious. He's explosive off the snap. He wins with leverage. He's a disruptor. Those are traits that Philadelphia has valued for decades.
Durant fits that mold stylistically. Pair that with his local ties from Penn State Nittany Lions and the familiarity the Eagles already have with him, and the intrigue only grows. There's just one thing. Landing him might mean the Eagles have to trade up in the draft, maybe. It just depends on how he progresses and how the board falls.
