The Chicago Cubs have had an intriguing start to the 2026 season and will need to continue improving daily to be the team they're looking to be. At the same time, Chicago has dealt with some injuries throughout the early stages of the campaign and, as a result, could be in the market for a veteran or two to at least give them some short-term help.

Even if they were to go out and sign a free agent still available on the market, the Cubs could move on from said player when others get back from injury.

Christopher Kline of FanSided predicted the Cubs would do that with former third baseman Justin Turner, who had a horrible campaign in 2025 in Chicago.

“Justin Turner couldn't find much success in 2025. He posted a career-worst .219 average and .602 OPS. It's hardly unexpected at 41 years of age. Father Time is undefeated in all realms, especially sports. That said, Turner has a long and illustrious track record, with more than a decade of positive results to point to. This is not a move the local fanbase would embrace, but if Turner is going to give it another go, a reunion with the Cubs could make sense, at least on paper,” he wrote.

As Cubs fans know at this point, he isn't the same type of player that he once was.

Turner is still a good guy and is well respected around the league, but offensively speaking, he just doesn't swing the bat at the level he once did. That's the harsh reality of the situation here, so it's fair to say that most Cubs fans probably wouldn't want him on this roster. They already went through this experiment and seemingly didn't like it.
