· The South African

In just a week, one of South Africa’s favourite festivals is all set to go down in the record books twice over!

Visit saltysenoritaaz.org for more information.

Rocking The Vaal makes its return to Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng, and it looks to break two Guinness World Records in the process.

Here’s more:

Doors will open at 10:00, with the music show starting at 11:00. The event will run until 23:00.

GOING FOR BROKE(N RECORDS)

In addition to live music performances (more on that in a bit!), Rocking The Vaal will be the site of two potentially record-breaking feats.

The aim of the festival is to break the following two Guinness World Records:

  • The most pancakes served.
  • The largest chilli con carne serving (mince).

Ambitious? Yes. Delicious? Doubly so!

According to Guinness, the most pancakes served are 26 994. It was achieved by the CF Chinook Centre over an eight-hour span in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on 5 July 2025.

As for the largest serving of chilli con carne ever served, it weighed 2 177.24 kilograms. It was achieved by the Spirit of Texas Festival in College Station, Texas, USA, on 4 March 2017.

Here’s hoping South Africans will show up and chow down so that Rocking The Vaal can break these records in no time!

PERFORMERS GALORE

In addition to the record-breaking fare, festivalgoers will be treated to performances by some of Mzansi’s favourite music artists.

Here’s the current line-up:

  • Refentse
  • Karlien van Jaarsveld
  • Droomsindroom
  • Die Heuwels Fantasties
  • Kurt Darren
  • Irene Louise van Wyk
  • Adam Tas
  • Demi Lee Moore
  • MJ Nel
  • Onike

Sounds like music to our ears. Plus, there’s a high chance that you’ll hear Kurt Darren’s latest and greatest single, “6 7”.

Let’s see if we can get Guinness to record the most “6-7” motions at a festival, too!
