Cremins has worked alongside Mark Byington with the Commodores and at his previous stops at James Madison and Georgia Southern. Before Georgia Southern, he worked at Kennesaw State and College of Charleston. He is a native of Roswell, Georgia and graduated from Valdosta State.

Vanderbilt also lost Kenneth Mangrum to an assistant position at Georgia Tech, hiring Ohio State's Joel Justus to replace him.

Byington recently signed a long-term contract extension to remain with the Commodores amid interest from North Carolina.

Georgia State fired its prior coach, Jonas Hayes, on March 15. The Panthers were 48-79 in four seasons under Hayes.
