Lando Norris has shared his top four favourite drivers from the group of some of Formula 1’s biggest names that he’s raced against since his debut back in 2019.

When he joined McLaren in 2019, the team was still finding its feet after a difficult period with Honda engines. By 2026, Norris had become F1 world champion, joining the sport’s elite. In a tight season, he edged out Max Verstappen by two points and also went up against his teammate Oscar Piastri.

Even though Norris has a strong relationship with Verstappen, the Red Bull driver didn’t make his favourites list. Jackie Stewart has also previously been mentioned by Norris as an ideal teammate but was left off as well.

Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button in Norris’ top four

Speaking in a video with McLaren, Norris picked his top four favourite drivers ever. Among them were Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, who both raced for McLaren and were teammates from 2010 to 2012.

Hamilton won his first F1 title with McLaren in 2008 after narrowly missing out to Kimi Raikkonen the year before. Button joined the team a year after winning his own championship with Brawn GP in 2009.

Norris grew up watching both drivers and often spoke about how much they influenced him long before he signed with McLaren himself.

“Starting with two Brits: Jenson and Lewis,” Norris said. “These were the guys I watched as a kid. These are the guys I supported as a kid and inspired me as a kid. So, two Brits, two incredible drivers, two McLaren drivers. Yeah, two of my favourites.”

Vettel, who made the list, even reached out to offer advice during Norris’ championship run in 2025.

“Three and four, a bit trickier. So, number three, I’m probably going to have to go with Seb Vettel. Also because he’s a lovely guy, he’s a good guy.

“Growing up when I was starting car racing was when he was winning his championships with Red Bull so for me to kind of see that experience it – he was passionate guy always was stylish with his helmets – so it was a different driver for me in that case.”

The fourth spot went to Fernando Alonso. Before joining the F1 grid himself in 2019, Norris had already worked alongside Alonso at McLaren in testing roles.
