Thorbjornsen is a huge talent and he has all of the tools needed to succeed at the very highest level of the game.

The 24-year-old has proven that through the first two rounds of the Houston Open this week.

The par-70 layout in Houston, Texas, stretches out to just over 7,400 yards, and the rough is certainly not penal in any way whatsoever.

It’s little wonder why Thorbjornsen looks so at home at the Houston Open this week.

The conditions were fairly benign on Friday morning as those who teed off late on Thursday attempted to make inroads into the lead.

And Thorbjornsen did not disappoint.

He carded six birdies and 12 pars to shoot a 64, leaving him at eight-under-par for the tournament, just three adrift of the leader, Gary Woodland.

After his round, Thorbjornsen spoke to the media and responded when asked to sum up his round.

I don’t know, it was just I guess solid overall, the 24-year-old said.

Pretty solid. I think I made one mistake kind of on hole 12, my third hole of the day.

Hit a very idiotic chip, that was just bad.

Other than that, I feel like it was pretty good. Stayed very patient out there. Missed a short one on my back side, but overall everything’s feeling quite good.

Michael Thorbjornsen’s stats through two rounds at the Houston Open

While Thorbjornsen’s superpower is his long and straight driving of the golf ball, his approach play has been his most potent weapon through two rounds in Houston this week.

The 24-year-old is ranked 11th in strokes gained approach and is ranked T-16 in strokes gained off the tee.

However, his chipping and putting has been slightly suspect.

Thorbjornsen is ranked 51st and 55th respectively in strokes gained around the greens and strokes gained putting.

You would imagine that he will need to drastically improve those parts of his game if he’s to win at Memorial Park on Sunday.

That said, Thorbjornsen is still in a great position heading into the weekend at the Houston Open.
