Prominent NFL insider links Commanders to Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love

Monday marked exactly one month until the 2026 NFL Draft. In his normal spot on the "Pat McAfee Show," NFL insider Adam Schefter joined to discuss the draft, some of the top players and their potential landing spots.

One of the most interesting prospects in the 2026 class is Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love. Some believe the 6-foot-0, 213-pound back is the best overall talent in the class. However, he's not going No. 1 overall. He may or may not even go inside the top five. Positional value could impact how high Love goes in next month's draft.

Since the NFL combine last month, many mock drafts have projected Love inside the top five, usually to the Tennessee Titans at No. 4 overall. If not Tennessee, some have mocked Love to the New York Giants at No. 5 overall.

Not so fast, my friend, says Schefter.

"He [Love] is a top ten pick, I know a lot of people had him going to Tennessee, again its not what I am sensing right now," Schefter said. "Today, as we figure today, my guess would be, I do not see him going to Tennessee. I do not see him going to the Giants at No. 5. Although that would be an interesting spot, and I believe he'd have a lot of support there. To me, a place that makes sense, today, a month out, would be the Washington Commanders. They've added to their running back room. I could see Washington being interested in a player like Jeremiyah Love. Seven would be the spot. If we go back to other years, other great running backs, Bijan Robinson went No. 8 to Atlanta. Christian McCaffrey went No. 8 to Carolina. ......If you could pair Jeremiyah Love and Jayden Daniels, that would be dynamic. And they've been in need at that spot. To me, that's a spot that I'm watching a month out."

Schefter didn't predict it would happen. He admitted Love could still go No. 4 or No. 5, but he said No. 7 and the Commanders are the spot he's most watching when it comes to Love.

Before anyone dismisses this, Schefter is usually right on these things. Remember when everyone in the media world said Ben Johnson was coming to Washington in 2024? It was Schefter who said that wasn't happening. Also in 2024, it was Schefter, a month out, who confidently said the Commanders would pick Jayden Daniels at No. 2 over Drake Maye and others.

Sure, this is different, and some things would have to break Washington's way, but Schefter isn't just saying this for clicks. He's informed.

The Commanders could go a number of ways with the No. 7 pick. After filling several defensive needs, running back is on the table. While Washington signed three backs to supplement Jacory Croskey-Merritt, none would preclude GM Adam Peters from selecting Love.
