Two candidates to replace Kehl at Borussia Dortmund emerge

Following the announcement on Sunday that Sebastian Kehl had left his position as sporting director, two possible candidates to succeed him have emerged.

Elversberg sporting director Nils-Ole Book is being mentioned as an option by several outlets.

What speaks in favour of the 40-year-old is his local ties and strong eye for talent. In the past, he brought the likes of Nick Woltemade, Fisnik Asllani, Younes Ebnoutalib, Robin Fellhauer and Paul Wanner to Elversberg – and they all made significant progress there.

Book was linked with Borussia Mönchengladbach after Roland Virkus stepped down as sporting managing director in October, but the 40-year-old instead chose to extend his contract, while Die Fohlen appointed Rouven Schröder.

Another candidate to replace Kehl, according to Bild, is Alexander Rosen, who was dismissed as Hoffenheim’s sporting managing director in 2024.

Having spent 14 years at Hoffenheim as squad planner, Rosen is regarded as an expert in squad building, youth integration and profitable transfers – and also brings considerable experience.

Time will tell which of the two candidates – if any – Dortmund will ultimately move for.
