This one was especially rewarding, given what a difficult start to the season the Blue Devils had.
Duke started off just 3-6 and then completely flipped the script, ripping off 17 straight wins. They won the ACC regular season title and rolled into the tournament in high gear at 24-8.
And the highlights of this game were truly impressive, and not just for Duke. Louisville would have been a deserving championship team, too. They played brilliantly. It’s just that Duke was able to go just a little further than the Cards did, dig a little deeper.
Make sure to check out the shot that Louisville hit to end the first quarter, which was fairly amazing, and then the end of regulation was brilliant for Duke, and not least of all Taina Mair’s block and her decision to put the ball up in the air where her opponents could not possibly recover it as time ran out.
And also, watch Duke’s passing, especially in clutch moments. They did a superb job of moving the ball and getting someone open for easy shots.
There have been some teams over the years that we really admired, not least of all the 1998-99 NCAA runner-up team. This one has become one of our all-time favorites. What a magical ride it has been.
