It’s unusual for Chelsea to face a lower league team in an FA Cup fifth round tie and not be the main story – but that’s the case today.
They take on Wrexham, who are owned by two Hollywood superstars, and all the talk is about how this game is a chance for the Championship side to compete with some genuine giants of the English game and show how far they’ve come.
Rosenior says Chelsea plan to take Wrexham game “seriously”
Speaking in his press conference ahead of the game, Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior was very complimentary about Wrexham’s rise from the bottom of the pyramid to just one promotion short of the top.
“When you see a club grow, develop and improve as they come up the leagues, it’s a great story,” Rosenior said in a measured fashion during his pre-match press conference.
He was also full of praise for the Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson, who is bringing them ever closer to the Premier League, and was at Chelsea’s game against Aston Villa earlier this week with a watching brief.
“I think Phil has done an incredible job with the way he manages the team and the position they are in the league as well. They have done a great job.
“We know it will be a really difficult game. It’s a club that’s on the rise, and there is good energy and a good vibe around. It’s hard to play against that, so we will take the game really seriously.
