Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers supports Will Howard as a long-time starter

There's plenty of concerns surrounding the long-term future of the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback position — but Aaron Rodgers approves of one young quarterback eventually taking the reins.

On Thursday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers lauded Will Howard as not only a future starting-caliber quarterback, but also claimed he'd be in the league for a "long time."

“I’m a big Will Howard [supporter] — not just a fan as a human — but a believer as a player," Rodgers said. "And when his time comes, he’s going to be more than capable of being not just a consistent starter, but a guy who can stick in the league for a long, long time.”

Howard, selected by the Steelers with the 185th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, wasn't able to see any preseason action last year due to a broken finger he suffered in training camp. He sat behind Rodgers and Mason Rudolph his entire rookie season, which may have been huge for his development moving forward.

With Rodgers' 2026 plans up in the air, the Steelers could very well have to lean on Howard sooner than later, unless his mentor decides to run it back for another season with the Black and Gold.
