Cooper Moore Strikes Out 10 as LSU Improves to 10-1
· Yahoo Sports
Thanks to 7.2 excellent from junior righty Cooper Moore, LSU (10-1) was able to hold off Northeastern (1-6) 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Alex Box Stadium to take the second game of this four-game stretch.
“Cooper is a star,” Jay Johnson said after the game. “There’s always that one guy you bring to your team you know is going to be as good as you want him to be, and Cooper is that guy for this team.” Speaking of Jay, today’s win is No. 200 in his tenure at LSU. I’m sure he’ll triple that number by the time he calls it a career.

Moore flirted with a potential no-hit bid, but Northeastern third basemen AJ Aschettino homered in the fifth inning for the Huskies’ first hit of the afternoon. Outside of that one mistake, Moore was marvelous: 7.2 innings, 10 strikeouts against just one walk, and only three hits.
Devin Sheerin came on in the eighth for the four-out save, his first of the 2026 season. Sheerin struck out three of the four batters he faced, but did hit a batter to put the tying run aboard in the ninth.
While the Tigers never trailed, the bats needed Moore and Sheerin to be dominant because the offense has been sluggish the past two outings.
For the second straight game, the Tigers have only managed five hits. Are we freaking out that LSU had a couple of crummy days at the plate against Dartmouth and Northeastern? Of course not, but the past two days have definitely been frustrating.
Game three of four-game round robin was moved up to 12:30 P.M. as LSU will play its second game against Dartmouth tomorrow with William Schmidt set to make the start. Grambling and Northeastern will also play tomorrow evening at 6:00, and admission for that game is free.
