The Cleveland Browns have a major decision to make at the quarterback position this offseason. While they have a few in-house options, they could also land a top-tier free agent, trade target, or NFL Draft prospect.

But, for Shedeur Sanders, the Browns' standing pat and not making any major additions to the QB room this offseason would be massive for his chances to be the Week 1 starter for the Browns.
And fortunately, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the latest update for the Browns and top free agent quarterback Malik Willis is some great news for Sanders' chances to be the starter in 2026.

"Expect at least two and possibly several teams to be involved on Willis," Fowler reports. "'Miami is definitely in,' a source said. Arizona is combing the market, too, but it doesn't seem likely that Willis will end up in Cleveland."
Willis is one of the top quarterbacks available this offseason in free agency, the draft, and the trade market. He's a fantastic dual-threat QB who can both run and throw the ball.
He's not made many starts over the last few years with the Green Bay Packers, but when he has gotten a chance, he's shown promise. Enough promise that he could land a deal worth at least $20 million per year.
The Browns have been linked to Willis at times this offseason, but now with this update from Fowler, it's looking like the Packers quarterback won't join the Browns this offseason.

That's massive news for Sanders, as Willis was one of the best quarterbacks this offseason who would very easily take over Sanders' starting job in 2026.
But now, with Willis likely out of the picture, Sanders presents the Browns with some of the highest upside possible, aside from a rookie QB.
With major needs at offensive line and wide receiver, the Browns should focus their resources on those two positions and take a full one-year look at Sanders as the starter.
If he proves himself worthy of the job, then the Browns have a very cheap QB for the next two years. But if he struggles, they'll be well-positioned to land a rookie in the 2027 draft class that's expected to have plenty of great options.
