Body recovered at Voëlklip at Herold’s Bay after VW Polo plunges over cliff

South African Police Service (SAPS) in George have opened an inquest docket after the body of a 30-year-old man was recovered from Voëlklip at Herold’s Bay on Sunday, 1 March.
Police spokesperson Lt Col Malcolm Pojie said a joint recovery operation was launched at about 05:00 after neighbourhood watch members reported spotting a VW Polo that had gone over the cliffs at Voëlklip.

Autopsy to be conducted
“The deceased was last seen alive last night between 23:00 and midnight. The victim was declared as deceased by medical personnel on scene.
“An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Investigation continues,” Pojie said.
Investigations ongoing
According to the George Herald, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), SAPS Water Policing and Diving Services, Forensic Pathology Services rescue teams and local police participated in the operation.
Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
