Well-travelled Mamelodi Sundowns Sporting Director Flemming Berg played a role in Chicago Fire’s audacious move to sign Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

And now, it has also been revealed that the top boss from rival club Mamelodi Sundowns had a hand in Mbokazi’s transfer.
Berg’s relationship with Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter laid the way for the Orlando Pirates star’s move.
Without divulging whether it was Berg who recommended Mbokazi to him, or whether he enquired about Mbokazi to Berg, Berhalter himself also confirmed that Berg played a big role in the transfer.
“It’s no secret that me and Flemming have had a long relationship over the years. And there are also times when we ask him about a talent in South Africa and there are other times when he comes to us,” Gregg Berhalter said as quoted by Soccer Laduma regarding Mbokazi’s transfer.
Mbokazi’s numbers at the Bucs
After was promoted to the Orlando Pirates first-team in 2024.
The 20-year-old defender made 40 appearances for the club.
